Fans were witness to a chaotic Malaysian V-Prix, as for the first time since 2015, drivers had to race in the rain. The race saw many incidents, some that certain teams believe warranted a significant penalty. The stewards have been at work and to carefully make their decisions on where to place those penalties.
It has been confirmed that Felix Beyer will receive a one-race ban after driving into the side of Johan Halvosen on lap fifteen out of fifty-six in the Malaysian V-Prix. The Dutchman will be suspended during the British V-Prix weekend, forcing AMR to find a replacement. It is believed that Beyer was set to receive a two race ban, but was reduced to just one, after stewards gave some benefit of the doubt of what the visibility may have been like for Beyer at the time. "What we seen was poor driving standards all over the track today. Some were poor racing mistakes, but one incident was very bad and isn't accepted in Formula Virtual. Felix Beyer has been handed a one race ban following an awful and careless move on lap fifteen", said Nic Morley. There were other incidents that have been taken to the stewards office, in particular a lap later on lap sixteen, when Judson Sikes and Ryota Yoshida collided in the pit lane. It has been confirmed that Judson Sikes will receive a ten-place grid penalty for the British V-Prix. "Sadly Yoshida and Sikes got into a tangle at the final turn, but headed their way into the pit lane. While we do see tangles every now and then, to do this in the pit lane is completely unacceptable. Judson Sikes stepped up the dangerous levels by pushing Ryota Yoshida into the wall without any intent of trying to escape the tangle. Thus Judson Sikes has received a ten-place grid drop penalty for Silverstone", continued Morley. The controversy didn't stop there however, as 2014 World Champion Enrique Ruiz came under fire from numerous teams. The Brazilian came under fire due to his overtake on Allar Kangur on lap nine, which left the latter out of the race. It has been confirmed that no further action will be taken. "A lot of thought has been put into this one, and I feel due to the atrocious conditions today, racing incidents like what we seen between Kangur and Ruiz were bound to happen, so I give the benefit of the doubt here. Unlike the Yoshida and Sikes, and the Beyer incident, I believe that the Ruiz and Kangur incident is a racing incident. The stewards don't want to be overly harsh on racing incidents, but instead focus more on malicious incidents in which have been penalized", explained Morley. Comments are closed.
