After a long year of racing the teams and drivers arrived in Mexico for the season finale. The teams were greeted with blue skies, however only just missed the rain. Karl Beckenbauer claimed his fifth pole position of the year and Liverpool's eleventh. Enrique Ruiz missed out on pole position by under a tenth of a second, however pipped his teammate to second place. Will Hoskins will start from third on the grid and will have his eyes on his championship rival and teammate at the first corner. Ruiz must outscore Hoskins by five points this race to win the championship. If they finish where they qualified Ruiz will outscore Hoskins by three points which would not be enough; therefor placing Will Hoskins as the driver's champion. Tumo Kinnumen posted a brilliant lap time to go fourth, edging out Adrien Simon who qualified in fifth. Nikolai Milkovich set the sixth fastest time, in what can only be described as an impressive debut season for the Russian. Elroy Wagner was the highest placed Team 23 car in seventh, the final qualifying for the Dutch outfit. Lewis Ellington was eighth fastest for Peugeot, edging out the Fun driver's of Romano Agostino and Hugh Dwyer. Marcus Thunder could only manage eleventh quickest in what was a poor final qualifying for Downton who clinched third in the constructors in Brazil. Puccio Giadono was the highest placed Rossi in twelfth; the Italian team having a dismal session as they bid to hold onto fourth place in the championship. Jean Mattson was thirteenth fastest, Ivan lesic fourteenth, and Enzo Domenicalli fifteenth. Keith Boston capped off a disappointing year in qualifying with the sixteenth quickest time. Kurtis Gardner will start the race from seventeenth for Lucas with Nathaniel Powers alongside him in a lowly eighteenth; the Brit's final race as reigning world champion. Diego Campos could only manage nineteenth however at least qualified ahead of the Force Australia of Felix Beyer. Carson Davenport set the twenty-first quickest time. The Warrior of Abel Osterhagen was next with the twenty-second fastest time. Hiroto Nakumaya and James Harding will lock out the back row of the grid. With the final qualifying session of the year out of the way, the teams and drivers will be looking ahead for a climatic season finale. Two drivers in particular will be full of nerves and competitiveness. Enrique Ruiz will know that he must outscore his teammate by five points to win the world championship. however will not if they finish where they qualified. The Brazilian will have his eyes set on the win, meaning no matter where Hoskins finishes Ruiz will be champion. Will Hoskins will have the pressure on him as championship leader. The Brit has led the way in the title fight for most of the year but will know it can fall from his fingers at any moment. If Ruiz finds himself into the lead, Hoskins will need to react fast. The championship leader will have his fingers crossed that the top three qualifies finish where they will start. Crucially each Franklin driver has suffered from a gearbox failure in the previous two races; Ruiz in Japan and Hoskins in Brazil. Weather reports suggest that we may see rain at some point during the Grand Prix tomorrow. If the rain does hit the track it could cause more drama then what the race needs, at least what Hoskins and Ruiz will need. Stay tuned and countdown to the final Grand Prix of the year.
