Australian Formula V outfit AMR have announced Kowhai Racing's Alex Tunnicliffe as their new deputy team principal ahead of the 2022 season, a spokesperson has shared to media today. Team boss Adrian Arnello was first to confirm the new addition to the team after journalists reached out to him for comment. The Australian will guide New Zealand's Tunnicliffe through the 2022 season, while other AMR stalwarts Jan Milner and Rob Ronson remain committed to their roles.
"This is something I think has been coming a long time, yeah," stated Arnello. "We've run and run for so long without a deputy and while it's worked, it's not been too easy. We saw other teams have great success with such a deputy and it will let me put my feet up every now and then." "We've seen some great work from Alex and Kowhai Racing, and we know he's gonna be great for us!" Tunnicliffe had similar praise to share when reached for comment. "Obviously I am super stoked to be working alongside Adrian for next season, it’s such a fantastic opportunity and I really couldn’t turn it down. I think that AMR has great ambition and a promising future ahead of them and I jumped at the chance to be a part of that. It helps that I know I have capable people back in New Zealand who will keep Kowhai Racing running strong, that definitely puts my mind at ease some more." AMR have seen a better season than recent years in 2021, with several points finishes and a high of 4th place in Germany. It remains to be seen how they will fare come 2022, but expectations are "higher than normal" according to Milner. "We've got something under wraps that we can't wait to share!"
