Nathaniel Powers is looking set to extend his championship lead even further as the Brit edged out Elroy Wagner for pole position. At a cloudy Indianapolis, spectators and teams had witnessed a a very close qualifying session. All the drivers were covered by only 1.2 seconds, while the top ten were covered by an incredible three tenths of a second. Elroy Wagner who took pole last time out in Canada led most of the session, however was pipped in the final minute by Nathaniel Powers. Will Hoskins managed third place, so will line up right behind his teammate tomorrow. The Mathershaw drivers of Adrien Simon and Karl Beckenbauer will line up on the grid in fourth and fifth. Perhaps the biggest surprise of the day was the debut of Regi Abott of Molto Veloce, who was drafted in to replace Jawa Ahmad. The Belgian driver posted the sixth fastest time, to the delight of the whole Molto Veloce team. His teammate James Harding posted the eleventh quickest time. Team 23 driver Jean Mattson made it in seventh, posting a time two tenths of his teammate. Enzo Domenicalli and Puccio Giodano qualified in eighth and ninth for Scuderia Rossi. Hugh Dwyer rounded out the top ten positing a 1.09.303. Home favorite Douglas Bacon has the crowd glued to him all day, though the American could only manage twelfth fastest; a place ahead of his Italian teammate. Marcus Thunder was another driver to set his first qualifying laps in a F1FV race car, replacing the injured Scott Parsons at Orange Downton Pagani. The 19 year old Englishman was seventeenth quickest, ahead of his more experienced teammate; Kip Maxwell. Nathaniel Powers is in the box seat to extend his championship lead tomorrow, however will have Elroy Wagner and Will Hoskins for close company. Fourth quickest and last race winner Adrien Simon may also fancy his chances. Eyes will be on the sky tomorrow, with many weather forecast suggesting rain throughout parts of the day. However it is also suggested the rain may hold off until the end of the race.
