Current Team23 driver Jean Mattson has confirmed that he is leaving the team at the end of the season to race for Peugeot in the third season of the F1F Virtual Grand Prix Championship. The Frenchman confirmed the rumours in the earlier press conference.
This marks the first time that Jean Mattson has moved teams. Despite having been rumoured to be have been in talks with the team last season, this time the rumours have come to fruition. Mattson said of the deal, 'I am excited. Team23 have been great to me, we nearly won the championship. This season hasn't gone to plan greatly and so I think it is the ideal time for me to take the step and move forward in my career with a new team.' Peugeot are currently in a transition year, the first year as a works team. Kazuki Armos also confirmed the rumours to surrounding journalist outside the Peugeot motorhome. 'It is true, Jean is joining us next season. I have wanted to sign him for a while now and I am pleased it has come off. We are still a growing team and we are having problems at the moment. I think though that with a driver of Jean's capability we will come off stronger'. The new deal is rumoured to have taken a heavy dent in Peugeot's finances and an insiders has been rumoured as saying the future of all drivers are not secure any more. Whether Peugeot retain any drivers in order to have a bigger balance remains to be seen. However, current team leader Lewis Ellington is reportedly after figures which the team can reportedly not commit to. Despite intensifying rumours that Aquafina and Doritos look set to sponsor the team next season, Kazuki Armos has been overhead confirming that the sponsorship will only be agreed if Ellington stays with the team to team members. Again, fans should be warned that this is another rumour, the team are now reportedly looking into more deals in case Ellington's signing fees are to great to agree to.
