Indianapolis, Indiana – After coming out of a US Virtual Motorsport Association (USVMA) meeting in Indianapolis today, Formula Virtual’s FIRST Motorsport Team Principal Adam Blocker was asked to address rumors that he and his team were considering joining IndyVirtual in the future. Blocker had the following to say about the possibility of joining IndyVirtual: “I know that there has been some speculation and rumors that FIRST and I would join the series in some capacity in the future. I think that a lot of this stems from the series being US-based and our team being US-based. But all of those rumors have no foundation, as FIRST and I are not interested in joining a Tier 2 series after making the step up to Formula Virtual. I know that IndyVirtual is considered a Tier 1 series by the FVA, but that does not represent how much of a joke that series is compared to Formula Virtual.”
When asked to elaborate on why he thought that IndyVirtual was ‘a joke’ compared to Formula Virtual, Blocker went on to explain that: “To start with, almost every driver in IndyVirtual was either not good enough to make it to Formula Virtual or was not good enough to stay in Formula Virtual. This is evidenced by the fact that the Formula Virtual drivers who raced in their first ‘Triple Crown’ race wiped the floor with them. I mean when Dino Palma and Will Taylor are both in the top 10 in the championship, that’s how you know the series is a joke. Both of those guys were average at best in the VWRS and have never even been on the radar of any Formula Virtual team. Then when you look at other aspects of the series it gets even less appealing. Just recently they decided to change points systems during the middle of the season! Doesn’t that make the championship a bit of a farce when the points system can just change whenever the people in power want it to? It isn’t appealing from an engineering standpoint either: the series is largely a spec series. I know that they have three manufacturers, but the rules are so restrictive that the cars are effectively the same. So IndyVirtual would have to make some serious changes for me to even respect it as a series, and even more for me to entertain joining it.” After comments like that, we can assume that Blocker won’t be hanging around Indianapolis for the IndyVirtual race this weekend.
