Bradley Downton has declared his team's first ever double points finish during the Malaysian Grand Prix 'better than ever expected.' Nathaniel Powers and Marcus Thunder brought the Downton cars - powered by their own engine for the first time - home in sixth and seventh places, securing the first ever double points finish for the team. 'I am absolutely delighted with this result,' Downton beamed after the race. 'The whole team are ecstatic. To get a double points finish this early on is beyond our expectations. Both Nathaniel and Marcus drove fantastically today, despite a small mistake with Marcus' strategy that left him vulnerable.'
'We will be celebrating tonight. It may seem odd given we didn't win or even get a podium, but from where we were last season, this feels like a 1-2! We're only five points off our total from last year and are currently third in the Championship, it's unbelievable. Obviously I'm under no illusion that teams who are quicker than us are struggling and we will undoubtedly slip back, but we're making hay while the sun shines, something we failed to do last year!' Despite his delight with the results Downton added he wasn't entirely happy with the performance. 'If you look at the car's that retired, Enrique, Kumo, Enzo, I think all three would have been ahead of us and then we'd have been 9th and 10th. Jean too probably, and so we'd have just got one point, so obviously we're not happy with that.' 'We need to analyse why we fell back so much in the race and try to stop it happening again. But like I said, this year we're there to pick up the pieces and points when people ahead of us fail, something we couldn't do last year, and so we need to keep doing that while we have the chance. It's not what we want, but it's improvement.'
