The final race of the 2017 Steak ‘n Shake IndyVirtual Series was the Guia Macau V-Prix – for the first time being held to IndyVirtual regulations rather than FV2 and FV3 spec.
The 2017 Steak n' Shake IndyVirtual Series Championship leader Brock Kidd has taken pole position for the title deciding race in Macau tomorrow, putting himself in prime position to claim the inaugural crown.
The Holden Australia 250 at the Calder Park Thunderdome was held under the lights in Melbourne, with Felipe Cesar and home hero Nick Addison on the front row of the rolling grid.
Nick Addison looked set to take pole position for the penultimate race of the season and the point that accompanies it as he looks to fight back from his new position as the underdog in the championship battle, but was piped to the top spot by Felipe Cesar.
The Mazda V-Prix of California was held at Laguna Seca, and the star studded field was finely poised as they left the grid for the formation lap – Kip Maxwell took his first pole position in the series ahead of full season front runners Felipe Cesar, Yakumi Takahashi and Brock Kidd, while Nathaniel Powers and Puccio Giodano started on the inside and outside of row three respectively.
Kip Maxwell will start on pole position for the final triple crown race of 2017 - the Mazda V-Prix of California at the famous Laguna Seca circuit - just weeks after it was announced he will contest the entire IndyVirtual campaign next season with Signature Performance.
Cerberus Motorsport have confirmed that Enzo Domenicalli will indeed return for the 2018 season, following rumors that he could have been lined up for a seat with Ocelot in Formula Virtual. The Italian who has had some bad luck this year will look to try and beat his teammate Felipe Cesar next season who has seemingly impressed the team with his strong performances in the series having picked up both of Cerberus's victories respectfully.
The Italian will remain in the number two car with the team. Cerberus also went out to confirm that the team will announce car sponsors very soon. Yakumi Takahashi will continue to race for Morley in IndyVirtual in 2018, despite it being announced back in May that he would be joining Marcus Thunder at Formation.
Trois-Rivieres, Quebec, Canada The Signature Competition team have announced their 2018 driver lineup for next season's IndyVirtual, along with the sponsors that will be adorned on each of the team's four cars following the rule change that only requires that teams run "the same base design" on each car. As of yet, the full livery for each car has not been revealed. Driver 1: Keith Murphy (CAN): #7 Molson Dry Signature Performance - Chevrolet Staying with the team from 2017 after a strong year including a victory in Sebring, local hero Murphy will be hoping to be the pride of Canada once more in 2018, with the colours of the car reflecting those of Canadian brewery powerhouse Molson Dry. Driver 2: Alexander McLaughlin (NZL): #19 Credit Agricole Signature Performance - Chevrolet After racing for Signature with Holden backing in Surfer's Paradise and being scheduled to do so again at the second Australian round at the Calder Park Thunderdome, international banking group Credit Agricole's distinctive green and red colours will be on the New Zealander's car for 2018. Driver 3: Kip Maxwell (GBR): #96 Air France Signature Performance - Chevrolet Having raced for Lancashire in the 2017, the former DS Mathershaw driver comes at the recommendation of the Anglo-French FV team, with the mutual backing of Air France also indicating the close ties the two teams share. In addition, the British driver brings operational staff from his time in FV, potentially stacking the cards in his favour compared to the rest of the team. Driver 4: Stuart Harrison (USA): #22 McDonalds Signature Performance - Chevrolet In arguably the biggest coup of the season for Signature, they have signed Stuart Harrison - another FV star to cross the Atlantic to race in IndyVirtual. In addition, the American driver will be racing in the colours of one of the most iconic brands in American culture - McDonalds. It's clear Signature are taking the 2018 IndyVirtual season very seriously, while also promising to inject a flurry of colour to the grid. The remainder of the 2017 season will see FV champion Adrien Simon racing in the final triple crown event in the 22 car, while Alexander McLaughlin will be in for Calder Park as mentioned before. Jamie Gerrard gets the car back for the final round, which looks to be a last hurrah with the team, for now at least.
