A dry qualifying session was forecast ahead of the Verizon V-Prix of Long Beach, but a sudden downpour just 30 seconds after the green light saw teams scrambling to get their cars out on track and left a very jumbled grid.
The Steak n’ Shake New York V-Prix was held in glorious sunshine after yesterday’s heavy rain, with Jawa Ahmad on pole ahead of Yakumi Takahashi. Right behind them were championship contenders Marcus Thunder and Nick Addison, with fellow rivals Brock Kidd and Felipe Cesar starting 7th and 9th.
A huge downpour at Watkins Glen affected the qualifying session ahead of the Steak n' Shake New York V-Prix, and resulting in Jawa Ahmad taking a shock pole position for Sapporo Team Morley Racing, ahead of both of his championship contending team mates.
American Engineering have announced their full 2018 IndyVirtual line-up this evening, with championship contender Brock Kidd being retained alongside Luke Stokey, while the pair will be joined by rookie Dmytro Kovalenko.
Following the dramatic win in South Africa earlier today. It was confirmed by Cerberus team principle Oliva Rose that current championship leader Felipe Cesar would in fact remain with the team for 2018. ''Felipe has done an amazing job for us this season, he's managed two wins for us and has really kept us in this fight! We have been so impressed and knew he deserved a contract extention and it was just a matter of time before all parties came to an agreement. We saw some fantastic battling today between him and Addison which has really shown to the world the competition in this sport.''
The news should come by as no surprise considering that Cesar has managed to hold his ground against former FV driver Enzo Domenicalli who many believed would be a contender for the championship. It has not been confirmed who will partner Cesar for 2018 However OlIva Rose remained confident in Enzo's ablility. ''It's a real shame for Enzo, we know he has the ability it's just that the luck hasn't fallen on his side yet. But we value him highly at the team and know what he's capable of when everything comes together for him.'' The Sasol V-Prix of South Africa was held at the Kyalami circuit in initially glorious conditions, with Yakumi Takahashi and Felipe Cesar holding the first two spots on the grid. Championship leader Brock Kidd held third ahead of his nearest rival Nick Addison in fourth.
Yakumi Takahashi has become the tenth different driver to take pole position this season, as a late lap for the Japanese Team Morley driver denied the championship top four a lockout at the front of the grid.
The Deutsche Post 250 was held at the Eurospeedway Lausitz in Germany in front of an enthusiastic crowd. Brazilian Felipe Cesar held pole position ahead of Brock Kidd, winner of the previous two races, with Luke Stokey on the outside of the first row.
Felipe Cesar has taken his maiden pole position in the Steak 'n Shake IndyVirtual Series ahead of the Deutsche Post 250, denying American Engineering a lockout of the top three positions on the grid.
