After crushing the opposition in qualifying yesterday, the two Downton cars lock out the front row, with new championship leader Brock Kidd ahead of Kip Maxwell. The race start saw little action, as the tight nature of the circuit prevented much side by side action. The only noticeable gainer was Will Taylor, who made up for his poor qualifying with a good launch off the starting grid carrying him past Stuart Harrison, before overtaking Oleksandr Zozulya at turn 3. Kidd began to pull away from his teammate who held up Felipe Cesar, before the Brazilian divebombed Maxwell at turn 1 on lap 4. At almost the exact instant, Kidd began to slow with mechanical issues and Cesar flew by into the lead. Kidd eventually retired, joining Luke Stokey who had crashed on lap 3.
Cesar stretched his lead out in front rapidly, leaving Maxwell to deal with Aron Einarsson in 3rd. That battle ended shortly however, as the Renault ran wide onto the kerbs of the final corner and spun around. He missed the inside wall and was able to continue, but dropped down to 6th. This left Jochem van Snelheid to try and attack Maxwell for 2nd but an attempt at turn 1 on lap 10 saw both lock up and run wide, allowing Taylor to go through into 2nd. There were plenty other drivers making mistakes as well - Ryota Yoshida went off at the last corner and went from 9th to 11th, Rodrigo Sanchez tagged the inside barrier at turn 8 causing irreparable damage to his car from 13th and Ivan Lesic crashed at the penultimate corner from 18th. With Cesar miles ahead in the lead, it became a question of who would come 2nd and while Taylor held that position comfortably by lap 13, Zozulya came alive in the second half of the race. He dispatched of van Snelheid with a neat move at turn 2 and easily passed Maxwell on the main straight, as the Briton couldn't replicate his pace from yesterday. Zozulya caught up to Taylor by lap 17 and a ferocious battle ensured that was suddenly cut short by a safety car. Robert Steffenson, running 13th, binned it at turn 7 and his car couldn't be recovered safely. As Zozulya was fractionally ahead of Taylor when the safety car came out, he inherited 2nd as Cesar's 10 second lead was wiped out. Luiz Santos joined the long list of retirees as well with brake issues. The race restarted with 4 laps remaining and Cesar took off like a rocket, setting 4 fastest laps in a row to easily take the win. Zozulya held off Taylor to take 2nd ahead of Maxwell as Downton had a disappointing race. Van Snelheid finished 5th with Tesla's best result so far, though he was disappointed to miss out on a podium. Einarsson was gutted in 6th, beating teammate Harrison who had a extremely anonymous race. Not for the first time this season, Steven Kasami and Alexander McLaughlin had a race long battle between each other, though this time the Swiss driver won, beating the Kiwi to 8th. Otso Toivonen took advantage of the retirements to come home 10th for his second points finish of the year. Cesar moves back into the championship lead, one point ahead of Taylor, with Zozulya third and Kidd fourth, all covered by 15 points. In the teams championship, Jaguar extend their comfortable lead over Downton and Maserati.
