As the hype begins to build for the 2022 eVirtual World Championship, pre-season testing took place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend. Day one saw the fifteen teams tackle the famous oval circuit, with a session in the morning followed by another session in the afternoon. It was Felipe Cesar and the Maserati Cerberus team who topped the time sheets with a relatively comfortable gap back to McLaughlin in second and Marcus Thunder who rounded out the top three for Downton. Mercedes-K8ley were visibly pleased to have Steven Kasami up in fourth, after making their series debut in 2021, but the biggest smiles were at new team SininenTuuli Motorsport Audi. Lewis Ellington, who the team picked up following the withdrawal of Highwind from the series, put in a great effort to end up fifth for the Finnish team. Romano Agostino ended the session in sixth for Lamborghini ahead of Matthews for OSM, Bergkvist in the Porsche, Holzberg in the BMW Gray, and Hudson in the Lada rounding out the top ten. Callum Brandon was eleventh fastest for Thunderhead on his competitive return to single seaters ahead of Renault’s Milkovich and Zvironas in the Manziel Racing car. Rodolfo de la Fuente and Karl Beckenbauer were the two slowest drivers for Arrow and Formation Competition respectively, the German in particular struggling to get to grips with his new car. In the afternoon session, it was Arden Hutchinson who went fastest for BMW Gray, ahead of Ryota Yoshida and Sebastien Vocquelin. Kiara Thunder was in fourth place for Renault, ahead of Diego Campos in the Spaniard’s first session for Lamborghini. Mitsubishi were pleased with Elmars Zarins on his first outing for the team after stepping up from eV2, the Latvian in sixth ahead of Kip Maxwell’s Downton. Aron Einarsson came next for Manziel ahead of Zander Brynildsen in the SininenTuuli and Leo Brzyski rounding out the top ten for OSM. Jochem van Snelheid in the Formation Competition was in eleventh ahead of Carson Davenport in the Portuguese veteran’s first session for Arrow. Hector Draper and Viktor Ostberg were thirteenth and fourteenth, with Thunderhead’s Nicolas Steffensen bringing up the rear in fifteenth. |
