To the shock of absolutely no one, the drivers woke up on the day of the British eV-Prix to rain splitting the stones - to the delight of Zvironas, who starts on pole today after a dominant display in qualifying. But with the curve ball of rain, anything can happen. Along with that, everyone will be on a default 2 stop, meaning it's a straight fight to the flag. As the lights went out, the front of the field held station with Zvironas leading from Cesar and Ostberg. The spray was horrible in the pouring rain, and visibility was close to nil. That didn't stop some drivers from putting on a show though: Zozulya passed Einarsson and Yoshida on successive laps, while a late move at turn 1 saw Garcia move pass Matthews. Behind them van Snelheid was another early gainer as he demoted Vocquelin and Davies a place. At the back, Hudson's miserable weekend ended with a 2nd lap crash.
By lap 5 drivers were getting use to the spray, bar Domenicalli who spun off and retired. Einarsson recovered back up to 5th after surprising Yoshida, Ellington moved into 16th with a pass on Bergkvist and Zozulya continued his impressive climb with an overtake on Ostberg to take 3rd. By then though, the top two had pulled away and engaged in their own battle - Cesar was hounding the Fusion and used a switchback at the final corner to take the lead. There was drama in the midfield as well, after van Snelheid dispatched of Matthews. Garcia went for a move on Maxwell ahead of them, the Downton turned in and the Brazilian was spun around. He was able to continue but dropped behind the Arrow (who also slipped by Maxwell), Matthews and Vocquelin. Not to be denied a maiden podium, Ostberg fought back past Zozulya on lap 11, with Vocquelin doing likewise on Matthews. The first round of pit stops came on lap 13, and Fusion mechanics did the service of their life to get Zvironas back out ahead of Cesar for the lead. A slow stop for Yoshida meant he dropped behind Klien as well - Maxwell had it even worse, as he overshot his pit box and ended up emerging behind Vocquelin and Matthews. With new tyres equipped now, some drivers were thriving more than others: Thunder in particular was now enjoying things as she passed Nakumaya and Davies in quick succession. Ledesma was next to retire when he spun into the gravel on lap 16, though most of the focus was on the front, as Cesar caught up to and stormed past Zvironas to retake the lead, before pulling away. The action continued throughout the field - Zozulya pressurised Ostberg into a mistake and took 3rd, a botched overtake attempt from Klien on Einarsson saw both go wide, allowing Yoshida past the pair, ahead od Klien and Einarsson, while Matthews had a lockup and went off, dropping two places to Maxwell and Garcia. Davies was also in the action with an overtake on Thunder for 12th, just before the halfway mark on lap 19. Einarsson was furious over the radio and put that anger to good use, with a bold move on Klien followed by a dive into the penultimate corner on Yoshida to take back 5th. Maxwell was also starting to get a grip, moving ahead of Vocquelin on lap 21, while the back and forth between Thunder and Davies continued as the former got back past. For another Briton, Taylor, his horrorshow of a home race was mercifully ended early with a spin. But back at the front, things were heating up again as Cesar's advantage first leveled out at 5 seconds, then came down as Zvironas closed in. The field began to close in on the final round of pit stops and there was drama beforehand when Klien and Yoshida were locked in an intense battle, allowing van Snelheid to close in. Some fantastic opportunistic driving saw the Arrow syth past the two to move into 6th, though behind Matthews once again had an off, this time ceding positions to Thunder, Davies and Nakumaya. Pit stops came on lap 26, and Zvironas' hard work was undone when a sticky wheel nut cost him a couple of seconds to Cesar. Thunder on the other hand was able to jump past Garcia, as did Nakumaya on Davies. They all also gained an extra place as Maxwell threw away his race as he lit up the tyres at the pit exit and spun off into retirement. Most eyes were still glued at the front, as Zvironas once again started to close in on Cesar, with 10 laps left. Even as the race neared its conclusion, the midfield was still fraught, with Klien moving back ahead of Yoshida and van Snelheid with a pair of neat moves, as Garcia agonisingly spun while chasing Thunder for 10th, dropping behind Nakumaya and Davies. The former was looking on it though, and dispatched of Thunder with relative ease, while behind Ellington demoted Matthews another place. Back up front though, Zvironas smashed the fastest lap on lap 31 to storm right onto Cesar's tail - the Brazilian desperately defended, but the polesitter was determined. He got a good launch off turn 8 two laps later, then sold the Maserati a dummy into the turn 9/10 esse to fling his car up the inside and retake the lead in fantastic fashion. Things were also kicking off behind them as the track got wetter: Vocquelin and Nakumaya spun in sync and dropped behind Thunder and Davies, though the man to watch was Ellington. The Briton had suddenly waken up seemingly, slicing past Garcia, Nakumaya and Vocquelin to roll right up to Thunder and Davies. The latter was taken care of on the last lap but Thunder held him off for the rest of the lap. Ahead of them, Klien and Einarsson locked horns again, but this time the Highwind came out successful. Einarsson ended up finding himself pressurised and overtaken by van Snelheid - the Dutchman desperate to get his team out of Q1. But it wasn't over yet up front. Cesar kept on fighting, hanging onto Zvironas and looking to force an error from him. With 3 laps left on the board, he was almost nudging the Fusion - as they rounded turn 6, Zvironas ran wide, Cesar looked to do the switchback at turn 7. He swooped in, clipped the kerb that little too much, and the back end stepped out, sliding the Maserati into the gravel. The wheels pitifully spun two holes in the sand before Cesar flung his steering wheel out as the Fusion garage erupted with roars. 3 laps later, their driver Zvironas completed a dream weekend with pole, fastest lap and his first eV win after a fantastic duel. 2nd for Zozulya was crucial after his rivals faultered, while Ostberg punched the air as he secured his maiden eV podium. Klien's late push rewarded him 4th, van Snelheid was brilliant to snatch 5th and save Arrow from another Q1 session and Einarsson was annoyed to fall to 6th, barely ahead of Yoshida in 7th. 8th to 13th was split by 6 seconds: Thunder barely held off late charger Ellington, Davies secured the final point, Vocquelin and Nakumaya were disappointed to throw away points so late in the race and a gutted Garcia couldn't break his points duck despite his efforts.
