Nikon Mitsubishi eV Racing Team have announced the signings of Alexander McLaughlin and Hitoshi Katayama for the first ever eVirtual season in 2020. Team principal Shin Asai delivered the news in a short interview with select Japanese media at the team's base of operations in Tokyo.
"As we prepare to compete in the opening season of eVirtual," Asai told reporters, "Nikon Mitsubishi ev Racing Team are very pleased to welcome two young and talented drivers, who have a great history of success behind them, and we hope we can bring each other to great success in the future." McLaughlin joins the team having competed in the second and final IndyVirtual season to date, the New Zealander taking two victories and finishing 7th in the championship. Rumours concerning the desire of the team to run a Japanese driver tie in with the announcement of Katayama, who achieved six wins and a further eleven podiums across three seasons in the Virtual Oceania-Asia Racing Series.
