Brock Kidd has taken his second consecutive pole position ahead of the third round of the eVirtual World Championship, by over six tenths of a second from his nearest rival. Aron Einarsson will start second in a brilliant qualifying effort the Renault team, where the Icelandic driver saw off Oleksandr Zozulya for the front row start by virtue of setting his lap time first, after the pair recorded the same lap time. Kip Maxwell made it a Downton 1-4, but was the only other driver within a second of Kidd.
After a dramatic qualifying session in Singapore, this one was tame in comparison, with no interruptions. Kidd was in impervious form throughout, but initially it was Alexander McLaughlin who was closest to him. The New Zealander had good pace throughout the session but a major mistake on his final lap saw him slip to 5th, while Einarsson and Zozulya dragged themselves up from low positions right at the end. Stuart Harrison was unable to match his teammate but he did set the same lap time as McLaughlin - as it was set afterwards he will start 6th. Last race winner Will Taylor didn't seem to have the pace to fight at the front and wound up 7th, just ahead of Steven Kasami. The Swiss driver had placed an impressive 4th after the first few laps but he struggled in his final few runs and was left disappointed. Tesla had a slightly lowkey performance compared to their last two races, with Jochem van Snelheid the highest placed car in 9th. Luke Stokey never looked comfortable with the car, struggling with the balance as he limped to 16th. Similarly, both Maserati and Porsche endured horrible sessions. Championship leader Felipe Cesar was nowhere in 14th and his teammate Ryota Yoshida was only 3 places ahead. At Porsche, Olen Inman improved on his past performances with 13th but Sebastian Bergkvist never managed a clean lap and was furious with traffic, which left him 18th. In comparison Lada had an improvement in form with both cars in the top 12. Robert Stefansson improved tenfold compared to Australia and Singapore with 10th, 2 places ahead of teammate Judson Sikes who kept his record of starting in the top 15 but not the top 10. The same could no be said for Steffen Rosenberg - the German, after 2 solid races, only managed 17th, pinning his poor performance down to scrapping the walls too much. The last 3 rows were completed with both Nakley and Thunderhead cars, as in Singapore, though this time the Australian team beat the Brazilian based outfit. They were joined by Ivan Lesic - who was over a second off his teammate - and Hitoshi Katayama - who was 25th once again and continued to be way off his teammate.
