After the debut of ovals yesterday, the eV circus stayed at Indianapolis for the second day of testing, but instead of using the oval, it was the road course in action today. Sunny skies greeted the teams and there was a buzz around the paddock as the teams returned to familiar territory. Day Two morning sessionTo the delight of the crowd it was Hudson who came out first on the track, and immediately the American looked much more comfortable compared to yesterday. He was joined quickly by Garcia and Matthews, both of whom had a scruffy start that would foreshadow what was to come for them. As a couple of cars pounded some laps into the green track, times started to fall into the high 33s and more took to the track. BMW and K8ley both opened their day with some long runs, both Holzberg and Domenicalli putting in some impressive laps. In comparison, star performers yesterday Ceberus and Porsche struggled, in particular Cesar complained of oversteer throughout the morning. While it was a mosly clean session, it was not without incident. McLaughlin looked on course to set a fastest lap around the halfway stage but put a wheel on the grass and nearly spun around. Taylor had a spin and was nearly collected by Ledesma, though thankfully he wasn't. Zvironas and Maxwell traded fastest laps across the session, both looking to be in a nice groove. But as the session wore down, van Snelheid showed some excellent pace and went fastest with 40 minutes left. He was soon joined towards the top by Domenicalli and Holzberg, both continuing their fantastic days. It stayed like that through to the end, with van Snelheid marking an excellent comeback after his struggles yesterday. K8ley and BMW were delighted with second and fourth, split by Zvironas with Ferrari's first top 3 result. Maxwell and Ellington rounded out the top 6. Day Two afternoon sessionAfter the break, the rest of the drivers came out to try their hand at it. In particular, the likes of Vocquelin, Yoshida and Stokey were looking to make up for their teams' poor first sessions. The first of those definitely achieved that, looking strong at the top of the time sheets throughout the day. He was joined by Thunder who continued Ferrari's surge of pace. Lada also did well with Ostberg while top teams Downton and Jaguar had a solid if unspectacular showing. On the other hand, Xun Zhao struggled to build upon van Snelheid's earlier performances, while Agostino couldn't fare much better than his teammate earlier. Haugland similarly was unable to show the same pace as Holzberg earlier, though Kasami had a decent session in his K8ley car. Klien and Highwind focused on long runs for most of the session before a late flurry of fast laps. He topped the session, the only driver to beat van Snelheid's time for good measure, ahead of Thunder. Vocquelin took third ahead of a happy Ostberg, Zozulya and Hutchinson. Day Two combinedAfter their struggles yesterday, it was Highwind and Arrow at the top of the timing sheets today. Ferrari also had a great day, while Lada had plenty to be happy about after their performance in the afternoon. Cerberus on the other hand struggled massively, while Vocquelin salvaged the day for Porsche.
That's all the track running taking place before the start of the season. Join us for the Australia eV-Prix in December. Until then, goodbye!
