Sebastian Bergkvist pulled out a stunning late lap during eVirtual qualifying to take a surprise pole position for both himself and the Porsche Westwood team after what has so far been a trying season for the German outfit. The team sit just eighth in the Championship with four points scoring finishes from ten starts, but Bergkvist will look to turn that around tomorrow as he leads the field away at the very short Norisring circuit. Star of the season Alexander McLaughlin will start alongside, keen to take a strong result after a couple of difficult races.
Kip Maxwell starts as the lead Downton in third, while Will Taylor was the lead car of the early Championship contenders, just pipping Brock Kidd onto the second row, though the trio were split by just 0.004 of a second. Ryota Yoshida joins the American on row three, getting one up on his team mate Felipe Cesar. The Brazilian endured a dreadful session and will have to fight his way through from near the back of the grid, but has good company in fellow title rival Oleksandr Zozulya, the Ukrainian also coming unstuck in qualifying and starting two places further back in 20th. Back up the sharp end Rodrigo Sanchez put in another fantastic performance for the Nakley Toyota team with eighth on the grid behind Aron Einarsson's Renault, while the top ten was completed by Robert Stefansson - whose Lada team are seeking their second points finish of the season - and Jochem van Snelheid's Tesla, the Dutchman just seeing off his team mate. Just behind, Ivan Lesic gave Highwind BMW one of their better starting positions in thirteenth, while Bergkvist's epic pole lap raised further questions over team mate Olen Inman, the Monegasque driver starting on the back row of the grid, ahead only of Refugio Boyer.
