The qualifying session from Canada ahead of the penultimate round of the season has produced a topsy turvy grid for the race. Q1Upon the series' return to an oval, Toyota showed they could be in the mix once again, both cars making it through to Q2, but it was Sebastien Vocquelin who blew the competition away, nearly 1.5kph quicker than anyone else. Romano Agostino used Lamborghini's oval pace to go through in second, but Campos never looked comfortable, over 4kph slower than his team mate and eliminated in last place. The last spot in Q2 went to Nick Addison, as both Maserati's and both K8ley's failed to make the race. Q2After a few difficult races, Porsche once again proved their competition on Ovals, Bergkvist topping the charts at the end of Q2. Former team mate Vocquelin continued to impress for Opel with the second quickest time, ahead of Jochem van Snelheid and Ryota Yoshida. Zvironas, Matthews and Hudson made it seven different teams in the top seven, with Porsche and Lada being the only teams getting both cars into Q3. Drake Davies used Toyota's oval pace to pull off a great result for the team, snatching the last spot in the top ten. Elsewhere, it was a dismal session for the two leading Championship contenders. Zozulya and Thunstrom ended the day 24th and 25th respectively, and have a lot of work to do in the race tomorrow to recover ground and limit the damage as the Championship nears its conclusion. Q3Just when Thunstrom and Zozulya thought things couldn't get worse, their outside rivals have locked out the front row, Barclay taking a well-received home pole position ahead of Hudson, who was somewhat surprised given his previous oval performances this season. Vocquelin continued to be the star of the session placing his Opel third on the grid ahead of the second Porsche of Bergkvist, whilst Lada's Urmo Kruuda and Jaguar's Jochem van Snelheid make up row three. Drake Davies took a scintillating seventh ahead of Matthews, with Yoshida and Zvironas rounding off the Q3 session, and setting up a fantastic grid ahead of the penultimate round of the season.
