Official classification from the 2022 Italian eV-Prix. Freezing cold conditions and drizzle greeted the drivers on the grid for the start of the race. Despite this, three of the top four opted to start on mediums, with Lewis Ellington in ninth choosing the hards. Part 1Predictably the drivers on softs got better starts, allowing Thunder into an early lead. Behind, Milkovich spun and got beached, Hudson's gearbox let go to compound a miserable weekend and Brzyski crashed at the Variante Alta, and with three cars stranded on track the Safety Car was called. When the race restarted the soft tyre runners asserted their dominance, and with the drizzle having subsided the continual lapping began to dry the track. The soft tyre runners pitted around the 1/3rd distance mark, and it was here their advantage really showed. Thunder rejoined just behind Ostberg, who himself slipped to fifth - 25 seconds off the lead - when he made his own stop just before mid-distance. Part 2Ellington had spent the entire race complaining about a severe lack of grip from his hard tyres, and this was evidenced when his misery ended with a trip into the outside wall of the Variante Villeneuve as drivers reported rain once again. Further back, a battery problem sidelined Matthews while the safety car appeared again to clear up the debris. The soft tyre runners pitted a few laps after it ended, handing Ostberg a 7.5 second advantage as the brief spell of rain abated, though this gap was quickly eradicated by McLaughlin, the Kiwi and van Snelheid having jumped Thunder in the pits. Ostberg defended valiantly and a mistake from van Snelheid whilst trying to take advantage saw him slip down the order, whilst Yoshida and Kasami were starting to show well. McLaughlin was becoming more and more frustrated and eventually forced a move on Ostberg at turn one, however the Swede didn't see him coming and the two clashed. Yoshida and Kasami nipped through with just two laps to go, whilst Ostberg slipped a few places. Yoshida held on to claim his maiden eVirtual victory after a so-far torrid season for Cerberus, with Kasami taking an incredibly popular first ever podium after of a frustrated McLaughlin.
