It is rumoured that so far 3 teams have taken up this offer, with the opportunity to run any driver - including current Formula Virtual racers - for the three races. As such, Powers has announced he has signed a deal with Formation Competition - with whom his FV team Downton are closely linked - to compete in the Triple Crown.
"I'm excited at the opportunity to go for the IndyVirtual Triple Crown," Powers commented. "The entire series looks very exciting and if I ever found myself out of Formula Virtual, it is definitely something I would consider. To be able to dip my toe into that water is exciting, and I'm looking forward to getting behind the wheel in Motegi for my first race." Powers will race with the number 14 - as he does in FV - and will join Adrien Simon on the grid, who will take the place of Jamie Gerrard in the Signature Performance team for the Triple Crown races. IndyVirtual series CEO Bradley Downton and FV series CEO Nic Morley have taken the decision to allow just five current FV drivers to compete in the Triple Crown this season, with only three allowed to do so from 2018 onwards. With Powers & Simon already confirmed, there are just three spaces left for Formula Virtual drivers, though that's not to say any teams wishing to enter an extra car for the Triple Crown races couldn't enter a non-FV driver. Additional entries for the Triple Crown will not be eligible for teams points, however the drivers will still amass points - double for Triple Crown races - in the drivers championship. The additional cars entered will be at the same development point as that of the most developed car in the team.
