Nick Addison has become the first IndyVirtual driver to take a second career pole position after topping the times in qualifying for his - and his Morley teams - home race. Addison was embroiled in a session long battle with Marcus Thunder as the two drivers traded the top spot no fewer than thirteen times, eventually ending up nearly a second clear of the rest of the field.
With four minutes remaining on the clock Addison set a 1:27.424, and while Thunder managed to improve with his final lap of the session, he ended up just over a tenth and a half from pole position. Hugh Dwyer and Keith Boston made the best use of their Toyota engines on the Surfers Paradise Street Circuit to qualify season-best highs of third and fifth respectively, sandwiching championship leader Brock Kidd, who was once again in the mix. Alexander McLaughlin starred in his maiden outing - the Kiwi is competing in the two events held in Australia this season in place of Jamie Gerrard - qualifying sixth for Signature Performance, while Alex Wright and Daniel Bruner also put in their best showings, rounding out the top ten.
