Virtual formula racing is increasingly gaining popularity in the United States, and the latest team looking to capitalise on this trend is Oppenheimer Motorsports. Noah Oppenheimer, backed by a group of sports and media investors, will lead the team in its foray into the Virtual Racing World Series championship. In addition to announcing its plans to enter in the 2022 season, the team made public its planned lineup of drivers as well. Driving the number 77 car for the newly formed team will be Alex Allen, an American who competed for the Mexico-based outfit Estrella Carreras in the VARS series last season and placed sixth. The number 78 car will be piloted by the British driver Finlay Green, who as a rookie finished seventh in the VOARS competition in 2021. “We’re very confident about our lineup of drivers,” said Oppenheimer. “This is a new team with drivers new to this level of racing, but we see great potential which is why we choose them. In Alex, you have a guy who was consistently scoring in his series last season, and although he’s yet to notch his first win he claimed pole position twice and was a regular on the podium as well.” Referring to Green, he added “consistency is something he could work on but he’s shown serious pace with a win and a couple of fastest laps as a rookie at the third level last season, so we’re equally as excited to see what he can do.”
