Drivers All drivers are free for 2017, however from 2018 onwards teams will need to pay for drivers, who will cost the same in IndyVirtual as drivers in FV: ie 1st = $10m etc. IndyVirtual teams can bid on FV drivers however regardless of the amount bid, if an FV team bids on the same driver – they will get preference. FV teams can also bid on IndyVirtual drivers however will not get preference on these, they will act like any other bid, with both IndyVirtual and FV teams being able to compete for the driver. Grid sizes For the three ‘Triple Crown’ races, the grid will be expanded from 26 to 32 cars, with teams allowed to enter one extra car at the discretion of the series CEO, though no team may enter more than four cars in any one race. Drivers for these races will not cost anything, however they will also not be eligible to score team points. Race Winnings Race winnings will be the same as they are in FV and you will get an amount for every car within your team that reaches the finish line. The amounts you receive depend on the positions finished, see table below:
Finances Teams will have effectively two pots of money – a development pot and a driver pot. Development money can be used on drivers, but driver money cannot be used on development – both can be carried over from season to season. Race winnings go into the development pot. At the end of a season teams will earn two lots of winnings, some for where they finish in the team standings and some for where their drivers finish in the drivers’ (these are detailed below). Team winnings go to development pot, driver winnings go to drivers’ pot. Team standings winnings:
Driver standings winnings will equal whatever the drivers cost in the championship, ie: 1st will win $10m, 7th = $7m, 15th = $3m, 26th & below = $0.5m Development Teams with more than one car do not have to upgrade all cars at once, though a team cannot have two cars more than 6 development points apart, ie: 0 & 6; 2, 5 & 8 are acceptable, 0 & 7; 2, 9 & 10 are not. The cost for upgrading one car depending on whether you run a 1, 2, 3 or 4 car team is below:
Think wisely with your development, as 50% will carry over into the following season. Every five years however (from 2020 if this thing runs that long!) there will be a ‘regulation refresh’ where no development will carry over and every team will go back to 0, just like they are starting in 2017.
Retaining drivers Teams will get a 25% discount if re-signing a driver, and will also get bonus dev in exactly the same format as that now revised in FV (2% for second year, 4% for third year, etc up to 10%). For fairness EVERY driver will be able to accumulate 2% per year, regardless of how many drivers are within a team, but the development gained will automatically be attributed to that drivers’ car. If this puts a team outside of the ‘no more than 6 dev points apart’ rule they must develop the lower car as soon as is financially possible until it is back within the regulations.
