The Chevrolet Indianapolis 250 was won by Felipe Cesar after a race that was full of intrigue and a surprisingly low attrition rate.
From the outside of the three-wide front row, pole-sitter Enzo Domenicalli made a slightly tardy start, allowing Nick Addison to take the lead. Cesar was just behind while the remainder of the pack settled into a very quick pace.
The first casualty was Rossendo Werner on lap 22 when he lost control of his car into the tricky turn two, the front of the car snapping around as he overcorrected a slide. From the restart, Addison managed to lead away, though Domenicalli and Cesar were hot on his tail. The Australian had a slide out of turn three on lap 37, allowing both the Italian and the Brazilian through into first and second, while further back Yakumi Takahashi advanced from 19th to 15th.
While the race was settling into a rhythm Cesar saw his opportunity on lap 54 and flew up the inside of his team mate for the lead. From then the Cerberus pair, Addison and Einarsson were drafting away from the rest of the field until lap 68, when Michal Kubat wrecked on the back straight due to a blowout on his rear right tyre. In the aftermath, Jawa Ahmad collected some debris which snapped his suspension.
Off the final restart with only 17 laps to go, Cesar led Domenicalli, Addison, Einarsson and Hugh Dwyer. Marcus Thunder was down in eighth, but having set up his car for late race pace, he scythed through the field, picking off no fewer than 4 cars in 8 laps to end up in fourth position. Addison however moved in the opposite direction, ending up in 6th, while Einarsson took second Domenicalli and the two leaders began to edge away.
The action kick-started on the final lap as Einarsson drafted his way to the front, but on the back straight Cesar drafted back past to win the race by half a car length. Einarsson was second in his maiden IndyVirtual race ahead of Domenicalli, Thunder, Dwyer, Addison, Will Taylor and Brock Kidd in eighth.
