Nick Addison has taken pole position in the first ever IndyVirtual qualifying session, with a lap nearly half a second quicker than any of his rivals. Addison was on top throughout his groups 25 minute session, and also took the fastest time in the Dr Pepper Power Pole, where the five fastest drivers from the two group stages compete for pole position.
The opening session of the season ran largely without incident, with just one brief yellow flag to allow Michal Kubat to recover from a spin. Marcus Thunder topped the second group but a small mistake in the Power Pole left him fifth on the grid behind Lewis Ellington, Yakumi Takahashi and Enzo Domenicalli - as four different teams and all three manufacturers filled the top five. The qualifying session marked a strong start to the season for Team Morley who - after disappointing in pre-season testing - were initially written off for the early stages of this campaign. Two of their drivers will line up in the top three, however their team mates Daniel Bruner and Jawa Ahmad have work to do from 16th and 20th respectively. The drivers and teams will now prepare for the inaugural race of the IndyVirtual series which will take place around the streets of St Petersburg tomorrow, with Nick Addison leading the field away.
