Matteo Zetticci has topped the opening day of pre-season testing in 2020 at Dijon-Prenois for Downton ahead of the much favoured Mathershaw Porsche team, albeit on tyres two steps softer. Zetticci - the first Downton driver to take to the track in the BD08 (dubbed the Franklin-mobile for its white and yellow livery) - topped the session with a time of 55.561, but set on the extra soft tyres, the Italian the only driver to use them on day one. Adrien Simon was second fastest in the Mathershaw Porsche on the medium tyres, some three and a bit tenths clear of anyone else, despite only managing 13 laps due to technical problems with the new Porsche MRV-20 engine. These problems were shared by the returning Westwood team - as Puccio Giodano only completed 18 laps - causing immediate concerns over the reliability of the engine in Porsche's first year in Formula Virtual. Hunter Ryan and Felix Perez ended the day third and fourth for Ocelot and FIRST respectively, both on the medium tyres and the only other two cars within a second of Zetticci's table topping time. Behind them - the second of four Italian drivers running on day one - Giani Ledesma in the Meteor was the only driver on the soft tyres, just over one second slower than the benchmark time, and two tenths quicker than Elroy Wagner in the Lopez on the hard tyres, the only Porsche powered team not to suffer issues. Johan Halvosen crashed the new North Star early on and completed only 10 laps, but was still quicker enough on the hard tyres for seventh fastest ahead of Giodano in the Westwood, and Urmo Kruuda - the first driver in an un-liveried Ingram-Jaguar - both on mediums. James Thompson rounded out the top ten in the new Phoenix on the hard tyres, ahead of new investor Lucas, whom Carson Davenport put eleventh on the medium tyres. Diego Campos was unsurprisingly the first driver in the new Cheema and lapped twelfth on the hard tyres, just ahead of the returning Enzo Domenicalli in the hastily built Franklin. Emma Wilson was the first driver in the AMR - ending the day fourteenth - while Arrow lapped slowest with reserve Zander Brynildsen behind the wheel - but only just, and still within 1.8 seconds of the top time, despite running on the hardest compound.
