Klaas van Snelheid has set a new pre-season test best time on his way to topping day five for Downton. The Dutchman managed a time of 1:10.402 - just over a tenth quicker than Allar Kangur's time yesterday - on the soft tyres, which was just over four tenths clear of Kangur's time today - the Mathershaw driver lapping second quickest on a 1:10.811. Johan Halvosen stood out for North Star with the third quickest time - admittedly on the extra softs however - ahead of Oleksandr Zozulya for FIRST, on the soft tyre like the top two but some seven tenths back from van Snelheid. Franklin appeared to have their best day to date with Tumo Kinnumen at the wheel. The Finn managed the teams best time of the test - just - but on the medium tyres, suggesting the former triple Champions have been somewhat sandbagging so far. Viktor Östberg was sixth quickest for Lopez on the extra softs - but some seven tenths behind Kinnumen in front - ahead of a rather impressive run from Hunter Ryan, the Australian getting the un-fancied Ocelot their quickest time of the test by two tenths of a second, albeit on the soft tyres compared to Puccio Giodano's mediums yesterday. Felix Beyer was just over a tenth back in the Holmqvist also on the softs, with Jules Simon in ninth with a time two tenths slower than team mate Mario Juan Lopez managed yesterday, with both drivers on the medium tyres. Diego Campos completed the top ten for Cheema on the softs with their best time of the test so far - marginally over two seconds off of the ultimate pace - ahead of Finn Schnyder in the AMR and Zander Brynildsen in the Ingram, both on softs but the latter with merely four laps under his belt for the day. The Norwegian reported hearing a misfire on only his third lap, pitted the following time around, and the green and white Ingram wasn't seen for the rest of the day. Arden Hutchinson was thirteenth for Lucas on the mediums - nearly a second clear of Karl Beckenbauer in the Excelsior who ran on the hard tyres - and was the last of the runners not to experience severe issues. Rodolfo de la Fuente only got an afternoon of running in on the mediums as the team were forced to spend the morning changing the engine, while Sergio Álvarez completed just six laps on the mediums before a gust of wind caught the car at the fast right hander of turn five that took Alvarez all the way into the barrier, incurring heavy damage to the Phoenix.
