Klaas van Snelheid has admitted fault in the incident with his team mate Nathaniel Powers during the United States V-Prix, which saw Powers taken to the medical centre for precautionary checks. The incident occurred when Powers' engine failed on lap 51 entering turn three and he was forced to park it on the inside of the corner, where he was then hit by Gabriele Garcia, followed by van Snelheid, the latter of which rolled Powers' car.
Following the race, the Dutchman commented: "I can only apologise to Nathaniel and am grateful he is okay. The incident happened so quickly the team didn't have time to inform me. I was looking down at the steering wheel to change a setting, and when I looked back up, it was too late to react." "As ridiculous as it sounds, I'm grateful for how it happened afterwards to free me from being entangled with Nathaniel's car. I'm amazed we got out of that one, and more amazed still that we somehow picked up the win there. That was one of my worst drives today, but somehow we lucked in." Powers was cleared by medical centre staff following the incident despite complaining of a stiff neck, however declined to give a post-race interview, the three-time Champion reportedly furious with his young team mate according to an insider source.
