In a surprise press conference held at Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas, 2 hours from Austin, Jochem van Snelheid has appeared to confirm he will be competing in the inaugural IndyVirtual series starting next year. "I've been on a few trips to America before I made a name for myself in the motorsport business, and I absolutely cannot wait to come back again in 2017 to advertise a new form of motorsport to America and the world.
Deciding to leave Formula Virtual was by no means a straight forward decision, as I held many interviews with my team to help me come to the best possible decision. The Lopez team have been right behind me from the get-go... yes, I like these cowboy hats sir" (van Snelheid responding to a comment by an attendee). The move however opens up a vacancy at the Lopez FV Team. Reserve Driver Abel Osterhagen has been with the team since Season 2, but the team also have the 2015 VWRS runner-up Viktor Östberg signed for next season. Osterhagen would be looking to prove he deserves his place in FV after being named Reserve Driver for this season. He scored the team's first ever points at Indianapolis in 2013 with an outstanding drive to 4th place in challenging conditions, and also scored another point at the finale in Brazil that year. Östberg will be looking to impress his FV team to get the nod in the FV2 series. He currently sits in a tie for 4th with teammate Vasquez and Nikolajis Christodoulou on 98 points, 5 behind Franklin junior driver Rodolfo de la Fuente in 3rd. He'll also want to add to his wins tally as well with 3 rounds left, his only win coming at Spa this season.
