A tender for new teams to apply to enter the 2019 Formula Virtual season has been opened. Ahead of this years Turkish V-Prix, also the series 99th race, Nic Morley announced the news in a press conference. Formula Virtual currently fields twelve teams, one fewer than the maximum thirteen after Westwood's sudden departure earlier in the year. However the maximum amount of teams has been extended to an astonishing fifteen, albeit the twenty-six car grid limit remaining the same. With this news it is expected that some form of pre-qualfying will be introduced, although that all set to be revealed when the series has an exact number of teams for 2019.
It has also been revealed that potential new teams will have the chance to research for 2019, once those teams have been confirmed. "It is with great pleasure that I open the tender for potential new teams to join our sport. What I am most excited about is that I am increasing the limit from thirteen to fifteen. This will be great for Formula Virtual as there will be more teams, more competition, and a higher chance of talented drivers securing spots for future seasons. What I will make important though is that the twenty-six car grid maximum limit we currently have will not change. It is clear that changes to qualifying will need to be made and a new system will need to be implemented, but this has been thoroughly though about and will be revealed when we have an exact number of teams participating". "Potentially having three news teams join in 2019 is an exciting prospect, but in saying that the series will still survive and thrive with just the twelve we currently have. It really depends on how many apply and whether then if it is necessary to make changes to qualifying". "Potential teams that may join in next year will be given the opportunity to research their cars for the 2019 season. Once the teams have been confirmed is when they can start developing, but when that time comes it will be a more in depth discussion. This will give new teams a fighting chance, promoting good competition and racing, and not condemning them to the far back of the field", said Nic Morley. With the news out, speculation now begins on who may apply and be chosen. A fantastic opportunity arises for many Formula Virtual hopefuls. Comments are closed.
