The latest rumor floating around the paddock is that teams must choose their own customer numbers from the beginning of next season. It is being speculated that the defending championships must run the numbers 1 and 2 clearly on their cars livery's. However the defending champions must also choose their own custom numbers. The remaining teams will also need to register their won custom numbers. It is believed that the chosen numbers must range between 3 and 98. The teams must also choose numbers adjacent to each other; such as 3 and 4, 21 and 22, or 75 and 76. Using numbers such as; 4 and 5, 16 and 17, or 72 and 73 would not be accepted,
The president and CEO of the series Nic Morley gave his views on the rumor; "It sounds like a good idea, but its a rumor and I cant remember ever talking about this. I would much prefer rule that will benefit the casual fans of the series. Perhaps we can have reversed grids based on championship position, sprinklers to simulate rain, or I especially like the idea of fans being able to hand out 'special' championship points to their favorite driver after each race", stated Nic Morley. It seems that their a few ideas being put out there for the series. However will customer numbers get the green light? Or could reversed grids, sprinklers, or fans points been given the go ahead too? Make sure to stay tuned in these fascinating developments.

I personally disagree with the 3/4, 75/76 idea. I believe the drivers should get to pick a number of their choice (their karting numbers, birthday, etc). We can all see in the Virtual Indycar Series drivers picking different numbers, even though they are the same team (Felipe Castroneves #3, Wallace Power #12). Drivers should get their own number that is special to them for any particular reason of theirs, which makes them feel more connected to their car.
