From next season onwards, Team 23 will produce their own custom-built gearboxes.
The team currently uses gearboxes made by Hewland Engineering, but will not continue their contract with them for next season.
In the last two races, Team 23 had to cope with three gearbox failures. Team principal d'Hazorme: "Clearly three gearbox failures in two races for a team that is fighting for the World Championship is unacceptable.
"We've had a look at why the gearboxes failed and we have come to the conclusion that the failure mode was different in each case. The team has just lost all confidence in racing these gearboxes, hence we have decided to build our own ones."
Elroy Wagner's gearbox failed while on course for a podium in last weekend's USA Grand Prix: "Those gearboxes have cost me a lot of points this season. Glad we're getting rid of the damn things."
The team still hasn't announced their engine supplier for next year: their contract with Cosworth expires at the end of the season. There are rumours the team will be using Downton engines next year, but the team principal didn't wish to comment on that.
