As we arrive in France for the upcoming French Grand Prix, rumors have grown that Downton are close to signing a deal with someone or something Dutch - strongly believed to be an engine deal for next season with Dutch team Team 23. After announcing that the team would need to supply at least one other team Downton F1 were linked to Westwood Racing and Team 23. With Westwood deciding to copy it's fellow British outfit and design it's own engines Downton and Team 23 were left as the likely link-up.
Team 23 boss Andae d'Hazorme expressed doubt however: 'We are looking into every option, and yes, this does even include Downton. However, they've only just joined as a team this year, and now are designing their own engines, it has the potential to be a disaster.' Bradley Downton - team boss and owner of Downton F1 - agreed: 'Andae is the boss of a team fighting for the Championship. He needs to be careful. I agree with him - our decision - there is potential for complete disaster, but everything is looking strong so far. Team 23 need the best they can get, and hopefully we can supply them with that.' Now however, Downton is more confident: 'We've got it built, and we've done some runs. The engine life has been very very impressive. Not one of the four engines we've tested so far has lasted less than eight race distances, so we've quite happy. The powers not lacking either, but obviously I can't give you them numbers. We have however sent all of the engine data to Team 23 - to see what they make of it. There are yet more rumors floating around the paddock with regards to the to teams including a technical link-up as well as the possibility of Downton taking Team 23's test driver to get him some races under his belt. Downton refused to comment on these rumors but as this article goes to press we have breaking reports that Downton has placed a bid on current Championship leader Nathaniel Powers.

I agree that the Downton engines may be risky. Perhaps it will be Team 23-Downton in Season 3, just to get a season and know how they perform.
