Adrien Simon has taken pole position for the Italian V-Prix - putting himself in the best position possible to try and clinch the Championship tomorrow - but much like yesterday the session was interrupted, this time by a collision between Tumo Kinnumen and Jean Mattson. With ten minutes to go Kinnumen tried to go down the inside of Mattson at the Ascari chicane. The Finn was languishing in seventeenth and desperate to complete a lap having so far failed to get a reasonable time in due to a catalogue of errors, but lunged at Mattson from too far back and sent both cars into the gravel. That caused a stoppage as the cars were retrieved, before a final eight minute sprint to get as quick a lap in as possible. Nathaniel Powers initially went fastest but was quickly toppled by Puccio Giodano, although the Ocelot could only lap just under a tenth quicker after a small mistake at the Parabolica, having been four tenths up on Powers' time. That left the door wide open for Championship leader Simon to score what could prove to be a crucial pole position. The Frenchman wasn't fastest in any of the sectors but put together the best lap overall to beat Giodano's time by just over two and a half tenths. Klaas van Snelheid lines up fourth alongside his team mate, while Allar Kangur heads row three from Nikolai Milkovich, the Russian impressively out-qualifying Enrique Ruiz. However, the former Champion suffered Franklin's second engine drama of the weekend in the final eight-minute dash that consigned him to the garage. James Vasquez lines up eighth ahead of the two Holmqvist's on row five, with the Phoenix cars behind them and ahead of thirteenth placed Jean Mattson. The North Star's and Lopez cars followed up with Johan Halvosen and Elroy Wagner leading the way ahead of Felix Pérez, who pushed Kinnumen down to nineteenth by the flag. Sharing row ten with his former team mate is Finn Schnyder, ahead of Jules Simon - a disappointed Oleksandr Zozulya - Sebastian Vocquelin, and Dmytro Kovalenko, who was slowest of the runners.
