Adrien Simon extended his run of topping practice to four consecutive race weekends, but there was drama behind him as championship challenger Klaas van Snelheid crashed at the Wall of Champions with ten minutes to run in the session, bringing it to an early end. Simon has been unbeatable in practice recently and was again after he lapped the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve just under a tenth faster than Enrique Ruiz as he fights to remain in contention for the Drivers' Championship.
Karl Beckenbauer was a surprise third quickest for North Star ahead of Nathaniel Powers, while Klaas was only fifth after his error. The young Dutchman was pushing to get a time as quick as those ahead and had gone purple in both sector 1 & 2 but misjudged his entry to the final chicane, clipped the inside kerb and was a passenger as his car smeared itself down the Wall of Champions. Klaas wasn't alone however as earlier fellow Dutchman Felix Beyer - fresh from his IndyVirtual Triple Crown win - also clipped the wall with his right rear wheel causing a puncture, and Sebastian Bergkvist - driving for Holmqvist in place of Lewis Ellington - spun and was lucky to only knock off his front wing. The two Westwood's of Kinnumen and Schnyder were both in the top seven ahead of Puccio Giodano in the second Franklin, while the two Holmqvist's of Hugh Dwyer and Bergkvist - despite the latters earlier error - completed the top ten. Further down Will Hoskins was an impressive thirteenth behind Allar Kangur and Oleksandr Zozulya, Douglas Bacon vindicated FIRST's decision to drop him by only lapping nineteenth fastest in Arden Hutchinson's car, and Jean Mattson never got to head out after his engine failed to start.
