Team 23's decision to replace 2013 World Championship runner-up Jean Mattson with test driver Jarod Lindsey came as a huge surprise to many in the paddock, no more so than Lindsey himself, who was so unprepared for the Canadian Grand Prix he had to run one of Mattson's helmets. The matter was never spoken of however rumours coming out of the United States Grand Prix paddock this morning suggest that Jean Mattson may be undergoing surgery in a French hospital. Mattson finished sixth in the season opening Australian Grand Prix but retired from Malaysia after a horrendous accident in which his car barrel rolled a number of times. He then showed poorly in Bahrain and Britain and Lindsey replaced him as of Canada.
It was widely believed Mattson was dropped due to poor performances however rumours have been flying around the US Grand Prix paddock this morning that he is actually undergoing surgery in a French hospital as a result of the Malaysian Grand Prix incident. It's believed that the surgery is set to rule him out for a number of races and as such Mattson was desperate to avoid it, however it caused him pain while driving and as a result he made the difficult decision to have the surgery now. Of course this is all speculation, but rest assured our sources are strong, as shown below.
