Enrique Ruiz has taken pole position for the Bahrain V-Prix, with team mate Tumo Kinnumen securing a front row lockout for Franklin. Behind them the Downton duo line up third and fourth, while another strong result for Lewis Ellington puts him fifth on the grid. Q1Q1 saw a strange result as the four fastest drivers in the session all saw their team mates fail to qualify, with Lucas book-ending the session, just over one second between Carson Davenport - who ended up fastest - and Arden Hutchinson, the Austrian struggling to get within two tenths of anyone else. Nikolai Milkovich got through in a comfortable second - just 0.007 behind - with Finn Schnyder a strong third for AMR, just over four tenths away from Davenport. Behind them Will Hoskins initially led team mate Rodolfo de la Fuente and Dmytro Kovalenko, with both Ocelot's once again at risk of failing to qualify. Late laps however saw the pair of them leapfrog de la Fuente, and both moved into the top six. Diego Campos put his best effort in to deny Hunter Ryan the chance to race, but a mistake at the final corner cost him crucial tenths, and the Spaniard ended up just seventh, failing to make the cut for the third time in four races. Q2As the last light faded, Lewis Ellington led the field onto the track, the British driver eager to replicate his performance in practice yesterday. Unsurprisingly he initially led the way, but was swiftly displaced by the Franklin's and Downton's, Ruiz leading the first run from Nathaniel Powers, Kinnumen and Klaas van Snelheid. Behind Ellington, the midfield settled into place with Perez leading Bergkvist, but none of them could get within a tenth of the Meteor drivers time. This included the DS Mathershaw duo of Allar Kangur and Adrien Simon when they eventually set one lap time each at the end of the session. The pair will start at the back of the grid tomorrow due to missing the strategy deadline - and duly only did one run in qualifying - but could manage no better than eighth and tenth respectively, sandwiching the second Holmqvist of Felix Beyer. Behind, the North Star and Phoenix cars mixed it up behind Oleksandr Zozulya and Mario Juan Lopez while Carson Davenport led the battle of the "new" teams almost to the disappointment of Lucas, as he joins the Mathershaw pair - and Finn Schnyder - at the back of the grid. At the front, the second runs proved crucial. Ruiz was first across the line but failed to improve, while an error from van Snelheid in the middle sector - having gone fastest in sector 1 - cost the Dutchman a potential shot at pole. Powers found himself just two hundredths quicker but Kinnumen pulled out all the stops behind, and moved onto the front row of the grid by just four hundredths of a second, to give Franklin their second front row lockout of the season, and in the last three races.
