It was a sunny day at Spa-Francorchamps and a far cry from last rounds stormy German qualifying. It was Enrique Ruiz who made most of his time while claiming his eight pole of the season. Tumo Kinnumen will join him on the front row while the Liverpools of Kip Maxwell and Adrien Simon lock out the second row. Marcus Thunder posted the fifth quickest time for Downton and thus demoting championship leader Elroy Wagner to sixth on the grid. Championship contender Enzo Domenicalli was bitterly disappointment with seventh fastest; the Italian poised to lose even more points to Wagner. Jean Mattson was eighth fastest for Ingram and edged out the other Rossi of Puccio Giodano whom was just over a second slower off pole position. 2013 world champion Nathaniel Powers rounded out the top ten in the second Downton.
The AMR pair of Felix Beyer and Hiroto Nakumaya lock out the sixth row in eleventh and twelfth respectively. Nikolai Milkovuch qualified in thirteenth while Romano Agostino was fourteenth fastest. The Meteor's of Stuart Harrison and Johan Halvosen will line up on the eight row of the grid tomorrow. The Ocelot pair of Judson Sikes and Hugh Dwyer followed with the seventeenth and eighteen fastest times of the day. It was a horrid day for Will Hoskins who could only manage to qualify nineteenth after a series of mistakes. This is a bitter blow for the Brit after his pole position last time out at Hockenheim and the pace of his Westwood in practice. Karl Beckenbauer finished the day twentieth fastest in his first time out with the Warrior team. His new Australian teammate James Harding followed in twenty-first. Carson Davenport will line up last for tomorrows race after his FUN never manged to complete a timed lap after mechanical issues forced him into the garage.
We look set to witness a fascinating V-Prix tomorrow as Enrique Ruiz bids to continue closing in on his championship leading teammate. The Westwoods look quick as do the Liverpool drivers. The weather reports suggest a mostly sunny race day however with a slight chance of rain at some stage.
