Ruiz was the only man to top the timesheets at all during Qualifying. He was the first driver to set a lap time with a 1:16.832, and bettered that twice on his was to pole, ensuring he was never displaced form the top spot. Giodano has been lying fifth before his late lap promoted him to the front row, displacing Wagner from what had long looked like a Franklin front row lockout.
Rossi managed both cars in the top six with Domenicalli sixth, while Karl Beckenbauer completed the second row. His Liverpool team mate struggled however, and could only manage eighth fastest. Nathaniel Powers lines up fifth for Downton while Marcus Thunder - first time race winner last time out in Brazil - was disappointed to miss out on a top ten start in eleventh. Ingram showed well on their return to a Qualifying session with Mattson and Milkovich seventh and ninth, while Tumo Kinnumen completed the top ten for Westwood. Will Hoskins didn't enjoy such a happy day meanwhile in the other yellow machine, blighted by traffic he could only manage eighteenth. Another pair with a vast gap between them were the AMR's. Hiroto Nakumaya a strong twelfth, but Felix Beyer just twenty-first after only getting one late in due to a mechanical problem, and he was blocked on that. The Meteor's line up line astern with Judson Sikes improving from practice to once again place his Ocelot highest on the grid, the Russian managing fifteenth. Behind him the FUN pair ended up with identical times, while Dwyer and Ellington completed the top twenty. As in Brazil the two Warriors were among the slowest in Qualifying, but at the very back was Emma Wilson, who struggled to put together a lap and ended up 4.2 seconds off the pace. Franklin will be looking to return to winning ways as the series races on the African continent for the first time in Kyalami, but the rest of the field will be hoping for another Brazil-style shake up.
