The opening day of pre-season testing has left many in the paddock confused, as reserve drivers filled the top four spots in the standings, with the fastest two times of the day being set on the Hard tyres. Abel Osterhagen in the Phoenix was the only driver to break the 74-second barrier, with Ingram reserve Yohan Dubois just over a tenth and a half behind. Carson Davenport was then third fastest in his FIRST, albeit with a lap time set on the soft tyres. Dmytro Kovalenko suggested AMR might have some of that promised pace with fourth fastest, just under four tenths off the ultimate time - also on the Hard tyre, but the first talking point of day one was the disappointing performance of Downton - Klaas van Snelheid only managed fifth quickest, four tenths back from Osterhagen, despite being on the soft tyres. North Star appeared to have taken a step forwards with Hector Draper sixth ahead of Arrow's Yakumi Takahashi - both running on the hards, with Raj Sharma being the first driver to get a taste of the new Lopez - the reserve slotting in eighth fastest on the mediums, albeit over four tenths back from Takahashi. Hunter Ryan and Danilo Forini rounded out the top ten for new teams Kowhai and SRT respectively - both showing signs of promise - but the second major shock was the driver just outside, Sebastien Vocquelin in the Porsche - the defending World Champions only managing 11th quickest, nearly a whole second off of the ultimate pace. Behind the Frenchman, there was also surprise at seeing Peugeot Westwood so low down the times - Jochem van Snelheid at the wheel of the grey machine - with Johan Halvosen making his Maserati debut just behind, ending the day 13th, albeit on the medium tyres. Giani Ledesma was the first driver out for the rebranded Lamborghini team, but the initial reading is that the team are in for another tough season, he was nearly 1.4 seconds off the pace despite running on the soft tyres. Meanwhile, it was rookie Felipe Cesar who propped up the time sheets, albeit over three seconds off the pace on the medium tyres, suggesting the Ocelot - which only launched yesterday - may have been experiencing some teething issues.
