The news comes after yet another poor qualifying session which sees Abott line up at the back of the grid while, his teammate, Lewis Ellington starts in the top 10.
'Regi has shown small sparks of talent, he had a great race last weekend. But he lacks the consistency that I and the team need of our drivers. We have reviewed Regi's performances weekly, and we no longer see Regi as having the potential to remain within our team.'
Abott will not take the position of reserve driver, but instead leave the team completely. Abott was known to be leaving the team at the end of the season, being replaced by Jean Mattson, with the outgoing Ellington expected to be replaced by Stuart Harrison.
Abott did not comment on the news, but teammate Lewis Ellington spoke to the media about his thoughts on his teammates performances. 'Well....where do I start. I suppose it's been easy for me, having a mediocre teammate this season. Regi is nice, but it is not always the nice guys that win. He's not as quick as me and is constantly dragging the team down. I'm glad the team followed by request for a more competitive teammate, we need improvements!'
Peugeot confirmed that Abott will be replaced by Ivan Lesic.
