To the dismay and hooray of various teams, Pre Qualification has been confirmed for the 2019 Formula Virtual season. Next year will see a record number fifteen teams the sport, albeit with the race grid itself remaining at twenty-six cars. This has thus forced pre qualifying into the sport. There will be two qualifying sessions next year - a pre qualification session, and the standard qualifying session. See below for the layout.
1) Pre Qualifying: Bottom five teams in the championship order participate in this session, with the fastest six drivers making their way into qualifying. The slowest four of the ten driver's do not qualify for the race. After each race the constructor standings are taken into account and the five worse off teams are chosen. However at the start of each season, the championship finishing order from the previous year is used for the first five events. In next years case, this means Meteor, AMR, Lucas, Cheema, and Andromeda will need to take part in pre qualfying for the first five times. From the sixth round on wards, it is determined by the current championship order. 2) Qualifying No changes here. The six fastest drivers in pre qualifying help make up the standard twenty-six car qualifying session that determines the grid order for the race. "There has been a lot of thought put into this and it's the best system for the sport, which allows new teams to join and participate, but also provides a lot more competition. Potentially we can see all fifteen teams participate in the race, even if just one of their driver's make it through. It's exciting stuff and I hope the teams are happy with it", said Nic Morley.
