After an eventful race for the Championship leader, news has leaked from the team that Nathaniel Power's seat in the team could be under threat for the rest of the season after a disappointing Austrian Grand Prix. After leading the Championship since the second race of the season, not many would have thought that his seat would be in jeopardy. After four wins, and numerous podiums, this race was the first in which Powers finished outside the top four.
"We're not doubting his talent or potential," Said team principal Jamie Franklin, after the race. "But he is starting to become unmanageable. He's young, he's fast and undoubtedly talented, but does that give him the right to do what the hell he wants? Absolutely not. Nathan has done exceptionally this year, and we wouldn't be where we are without him, but it works both ways. He wouldn't be leading the Championship if he wasn't in a car capable of winning, and we won't be able to give him a winning car if he squanders his talent by acting out in the way that he has," Powers complicated his relationship with the team, by unlapping himself, whilst his team mate was focusing on trying to get himself ahead of Team 23's Elroy Wagner. This isn't the first time the two have come to blows, with Powers holding up Hoskins earlier this year in qualifying. "Will could and should have won today, but Nathan was being unreasonable. We were telling him to let Will passed, but he was too busy coming back from a mistake he made earlier in the race, again when we were telling him to calm down. He's a great driver, as I've said numerous times, but if he continues down this path, we won't hesitate to replace him with someone who will appreciate the opportunity to be a part of the team. We don't want to be the guys to stop him realising his dream, but if he doesn't become a team player, then that's what will happen. It happened with Ellington, and it will happen with Nathan if that's what is necessary," Nathaniel Powers was unable to comment, avoiding the press entirely after the race. He was seen leaving the circuit as the podium ceremonies were taking place.
