Nathaniel Powers has taken pole position for the Japanese V-Prix where he will share the front row with Enrique Ruiz, beating the Franklin driver by nearly half a second.
Powers was the first driver to set a time and his subsequent laps were good enough to ensure he was never beaten, taking pole with a 1:18.223. Ruiz was the only driver to get within half a second with a lap late one, denying team mate Jochem van Snelheid a second consecutive front row start.
A late lap from Adrien Simon saw him relegate Klaas van Snelheid to the third row, where he will start alongside FIRST's Arden Hutchinson after a stunning lap from the Austrian. Both AMR's made the top ten and will sandwich Allar Kangur on the grid, who had his best qualifying to date in ninth.
At the other end of the grid James Harding was once again outclassed by Elroy Wagner - seventeenth and ten places behind his Lopez team mate - while Aron Einarsson also out-qualified Holmqvist team mate Kiara Thunder for the third time this season.
