Felix Pérez has topped an official Formula Virtual session for the first time in his career by ending practice for the season opening Australian V-Prix at the head of the time in his FIRST. The Mexican lapped the circuit in a 1:28.163 - some half a second slower than the same session last year - with a time that was just over a tenth ahead of Adrien Simon in the newly Red Bull liveried Mathershaw. Klaas van Snelheid ensured it was three different teams in the top three spots with third for Downton, but was nearly half a second off the lap set by Pérez. Allar Kangur backed up his team mates pace in fourth, while Oleksandr Zozulya did likewise to round out the top five. Enrique Ruiz and Tumo Kinnumen were sixth and eighth for Franklin - six tenths and a second back respectively - sandwiching defending Champion Nathaniel Powers, who complained of a lack of grip in his Downton. The North Star duo of Gabriele García and Johan Halvosen completed the top ten, the pair within a tenth of each other. The action on-track was fraught as expected, despite only 30 of the 32 cars actually making it out, yet impressively there were no major incidents and only two brief yellow flags. Both Mario Juan Lopez for Meteor and Arden Hutchinson for Lucas failed to set lap times as an engine problem and an electronics glitch respectively confined them to the garages. Elsewhere Felix Beyer impressed for Holmqvist in eleventh ahead of Elroy Wagner and Jules Simon, while Carson Davenport put in a fantastic lap for 17th quickest as Cheema bid to get out of Q1 tomorrow. Behind Davenport, Hunter Ryan lapped half a second quicker than team mate Puccio Giodano, while Will Hoskins also put in a strong performance for another new team, 21st in his Andromeda. Further back Karl Beckenbauer was slowest with team mate Lewis Ellington only four places ahead of him - indicating Excelsior have some work to do to get onto the grid - while Rodolfo de la Fuente, Nikolai Milkovich and Dmytro Kovalenko all also struggled, and will be fighting to get out of Q1 early tomorrow afternoon.
