James Austin - the Technical Director of Downton's High Performance Engines - has this afternoon come out in defence of his teams engine and the power it supplies following earlier complaints from customer team Ocelot, amidst on-going tension between Downton and Liverpool. Ocelot's team principal Rai Miyamoto made comments earlier in the week supporting Downton, but added, 'we do believe that the engine does need to supply more power.' Austin has batted these claims aside however, stating 'they're not our problem.'
When questioned Austin started, 'Our situation with Ocelot is slightly different. Rather than us building the engine and then the team insisting it is sent elsewhere to be butchered by people who have no idea what they're doing or how it was built, Ocelot use our tuning team for the engines that go into their car.' 'However, the result of this does vary, and produces a minimum and maximum output. It is then up to the team - once they receive the engine - to do the absolute fine-tuning and perfect it for the car. Looking at the data, the engines we've given Ocelot are performing right at bottom end of the output scale, because their engineers clearly don't have a clue what they're doing. Perhaps if the team hadn't wasted so much money on pointless drivers and worked themselves into this enormous hole of debt they now find themselves, they'd be able to find better engineers who know their crankshafts from their pistons.' 'So quite frankly, the issues they're currently facing are not our problem.' It is believed these comments came without the consent of team principal Bradley Downton and it remains to be seen how he'll react to such an outburst, potentially jeopardising the teams relationship with it's customer.
