North Star Racing have announced that both Johan Halvosen and Gabriele García will continue with the team for the 2002 Formula Virtual season, with Hector Draper being brought on as test and reserve driver. "We are very pleased to be continuing with both Johan and Gabriele driving for the team," read the official statement from the team. "The two of them have done superbly well in their first season together, and we look forward to seeing their performance continue into 2020."
Hector Draper's appointment had been heavily rumoured, following the news of Niklaus Hölzberg leaving the team at the end of the current season. A member of the Protostars driver development program, the New Zealand native graduated this year to the Virtual World Racing Series, where he took both pole and victory in the penultimate race of the season in Macau. "Hector has shown great potential in his rookie VWRS campaign," the statement continued, "with an excellent victory at Macau, allied to winning the VOARS championship in his debut single-seater season, we are eagerly anticipating his progress into next year." North Star are currently on track to match their best finish of 6th in the Constructors' standings, with Halvosen's highest scoring result of the season a 3rd place in Jerez, and García taking a career-best 6th place at the same race.
