Meteor International have announced the retention of Lewis Ellington who joined the team after Jules Simon was dropped nine races into this season. The team confirmed the full line up on their website. The statement read: “Meteor is pleased to announce Lewis Ellington stays with us for 2020 and will be joined by Felix Beyer as the second race driver. Our reserve driver role will be filled by a familiar face as we welcome back Giani Ledesma to the team.” FVTV reached out to Meteor and got quotes from Deputy Team Principal Guido Caliri as well as drivers Felix Beyer and Giani Ledesma. Guido Caliri: “We are very pleased to be able to reveal to the world our drivers for the 2020 FV season. To keep Lewis is made easy for us by his performances since he joined us this year. He has a total domination of MJ which also made our choice easier for the number 2. Felix has many, many races now in the sport and still is quite young. He is unlucky that Holmqvist have left as he was looking good, finishing on the podium this season in the car that did not expect to do so. And of course Giani… Giani knows many members of this team from his 2013 here so is looked upon well by all here, and is Italian which is fantastic to have Italian driver in the now-Italian team.” Felix Beyer: “I thought I might have to take a year out, honestly. It wasn’t looking good after my team left recently as most teams already have their contracts in place for next season but thankfully Mr Caliri, Shane, and the team have put their trust in me. I feel very proud to be joining Meteor next season. They are one of only four teams who have been in FV since the first race all the way through to 2020, and with this new ownership I think we can have a good future together.” Giani Ledesma: “Very, very happy. Always my hope has been to return to FV, I love the sport. The return with Meteor, who move to Italy this winter, is perfect for me to return to a team I loved to drive for and to be based near my home is so nice. Since we did the deal I have worked hard to get my fitness back and now I continue this path to prepare to fight Lewis and Felix and push them for a seat. For sure, everyone is so excited for this coming year.” The announcement means that current driver Mario Juan Lopez, on loan from Lopez, will not get a second chance with Meteor and his fate rests in the hands of Dylan Lopez’s team. Jules Simon, who was ousted when the team was taken over, looks set to sit on the sidelines along with reserve driver Andrey Kerzhakov who just completed his final season in VWRS.
