Le Mans, 18/6/19 Today, Mathershaw Technology have announced that they will no longer compete as the DS Automobiles factory team, effective from the conclusion of the 2019 season. The announcement comes hot on the heels of Arthur Lapierre leaving the French manufacturer to concentrate on his primary role with Mathershaw due to "conflicting priorities". Technical director and joint owner of the team Robert Mathershaw confirmed the news: "After a five-year partnership that has yielded three world championships with 2019 yet to be completed, I can confirm that DS Automobiles and Mathershaw Technology will no longer compete together in Formula Virtual. The ownership of the team will return in full to myself and Arthur [Lapierre, team principal], and we can confirm that we will still be competing in Formula Virtual in 2020 and far beyond. In time, we will be able to reveal further details of that programme."
It is currently unknown what form the Mathershaw assault on the 2020 Formula Virtual World Championship will take, but rumours have emerged that a deal with a major sportscar manufacturer is close to completion, with both sides already well underway in their preparations for next season. DS Automobiles executives once more reaffirmed their commitment to Formula Virtual, saying they would remain in the sport for 2020, though the state of their operation is very much in question with the departure of Lapierre and Mathershaw.
