Lucas V-Prix will be powered by Downton engines on their return to Formula Virtual in 2019, the teams have announced. The deal has been announced just one day after it was confirmed Lucas would make a shock return to the series they left abruptly in 2015. Bradley Downton, Lucas Wilson and Arthur Lapierre took to the stage at a last-minute media event on Saturday evening to announce the deal.
"I am delighted to announce an engine deal with Downton for the 2019 FV season," started Lucas Wilson, classically with a flute of Champagne already in hand. "Downton have shown their tenacity and engineering might in the past five seasons of FV. I can't imagine a better way to help return Lucas V-Prix to the top flight of virtual racing. I just hope Bradley can keep up with all the parties. I'm buying the first rounds!" Laughing, Downton stood alongside the outgoing team principal and firmly shook hands with big smiles for the cameras before launching into this own speech. "It's a real pleasure firstly to just welcome Lucas back into the series. He brought a certain flare with him when he was here last time and it's safe the say the parties have not been the same since, so it will be good to get back to that!" "It's also great that Lucas have decided to run with Downton engines for 2019 and enter into part of the DS-Downton family. We're proud to have them on-board and delighted that another team feel we are the best way forward in terms of engine supplier and technical partners for their team. We're confident the Downton DS-2019 will be our best engine yet." Arthur Lapierre was also present in his position of Director of Motorsport with DS Performance - the French manufacturer will still have a hand in tuning the Downton engines for 2019 - and added his own comments. "We’re delighted to see Lucas re-joining the grid, and for them to be doing so with the Downton powertrain is wonderful news. An additional team on the grid can only benefit all the teams in the Downton-DS technical partnership, while having such a highly marketable team on board is going to be fun!" Comments are closed.
