Liverpool test driver Kip Maxwell put Liverpool Grand Prix on top on day one of the pre season testing at Jerez. It was a sunny day at Jerez where the new cars of the season finally got the chance to put in some laps. It was a surprise for some, but disappointment for others; though there are still three days for the teams to show what they can really achieve. Mathershaw Technology dominated most of preseason testing last year, and under their new guise of Liverpool Grand Prix they have taken the honors to top the first session of the season. Kip Maxwell who will be test driver for Liverpool and Downton this season posted the fastest lap of the day with a 1.29.346. The Vauxhall powered Liverpool was over a tenth faster than second fastest Manni Costello in the Ferrari powered Rossi. World champions Franklin F1 had a respectable day setting the third fastest time in the hands of Will Hoskins; although a further two tenths behind Scuderia Rossi. Westwood Racing were fourth fastest in the hands of their test driver Douglas Bacon who lost his seat to Keith Boston just last week. Peugeot F1 Team and Lewis Ellington were fifth fastest on the first day, the team were less than a tenth behind Westwood Racing. Elroy Wagner who won the final race of last season returned in his new black Team 23 car. However the German could only manage the sixth fastest time of the day. Ingram GP were seventh fastest in the hands of Diego Campos while looking to improve on their previous seasons performance. Lee Fuller set the eighth fastest time for Fun F1, however ran wide on his best lap. It was a disappointing first day for Lucas Grand Prix as they could only manage the ninth fastest time of the day. Reigning world champion Nathaniel Powers was tenth fastest in his Downton. The champion and Downton will be hoping to avoid another poor season. Michal Kubat and Warrior Racing were the best of the new teams in eleventh place, ahead of Force Australia in the hands of Hiroto Nakumaya. Their are three remaining tests with three more chances for teams to show off their performance. Adrien Simon will take over for Liverpool tomorrow, with Ledesma testing for Fun F1, Alaniz for Force Australia, Domenicalli for Scuderia Rossi, and Thunder for Downton. Regi Abott will drive the Peugeot, Osterhagen in for Warrior, Van Slooten in for Team 23, Phipps in for Lucas, Ruiz in for Franklin, Milkovich in for Ingram, while Bacon will continue to test for Westwood Racing.
